Claudia Vece - Your Neuro Emotional Trainer

The S.A.N.E. Method – Neuro-Emotional Alignment System – originated in France through the work of Dr Mani Hesam and Dr Arash Zarrinpour, who founded the first institute certifying professional coaches in the use of this method in 2013. The Quantasia SA team specialises in applying the S.A.N.E. Method within its coaching programmes.

Why Is the S.A.N.E. Coaching Method Different?

The S.A.N.E. Coaching Method does not focus exclusively on analytical or cognitive strategies. It takes a broader approach, integrating mental, emotional and body-based practices designed to develop greater awareness and self-regulation.

The method is based on the idea that repeated practice can help individuals develop new patterns of attention, emotional regulation and behaviour. This is consistent with the broader principle of neuroplasticity: the brain’s capacity to adapt and reorganise in response to experience, learning and repeated behaviours.

The S.A.N.E. Method is not a form of therapy or medical treatment. It is an integrated self-coaching methodology designed to provide practical tools that can support personal well-being and help individuals approach life situations, change and personal development with greater awareness.

Quantasia SA, based in Lugano and certified in the S.A.N.E. Coaching Method, has also explored ways of observing and documenting the experiences associated with the practice in collaboration with professionals from different fields.

In 2018, Quantasia carried out an exploratory observation with experts from the Institute of Neurofeedback and Biofeedback in Freienbach, Canton Schwyz, at its Vevey location. Over four days, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of neurofeedback and biofeedback before practising the S.A.N.E. Method while EEG measurements were used to observe patterns of brain activity.

During the practice, changes in brain-wave activity were observed, including activity within the alpha and theta frequency ranges. These frequency bands are commonly studied in relation to states such as relaxed attention, internal focus and some forms of meditation.

Activity was also observed in the prefrontal region, particularly during exercises involving visualisation and attention towards a specific goal.

These observations are interesting from an exploratory perspective. However, they should not be interpreted as clinical evidence that the S.A.N.E. Method produces specific neurological changes or therapeutic outcomes. Establishing such effects would require controlled, peer-reviewed scientific studies with appropriate methodology and sample sizes.

The broader objective of the method is to help people develop their ability to shift perspective, regulate their internal state and access different strategies when facing challenges rather than repeatedly falling back on the same automatic responses.

This can also be relevant within organisations, where employees and leaders are increasingly required to solve complex problems, adapt quickly and maintain clarity under pressure. Training external skills alone may not always be sufficient: developing self-awareness, emotional regulation, focus and adaptability can also play an important role in sustainable performance.

The S.A.N.E. Coaching Method is designed to work precisely on these dimensions.

The exploratory EEG observations conducted in collaboration with neurofeedback and biofeedback professionals also examined very-low-frequency activity during the exercises. While the original observations suggested patterns that were interpreted in relation to self-regulation, these findings remain exploratory and cannot establish that the method directly regulates specific neurological mechanisms.

From a coaching perspective, the underlying experience can be described more simply: people often experience an internal conflict between what they consciously want and what their habits, impulses or emotional responses lead them to do.

For example, someone may genuinely want to change their diet or career while simultaneously experiencing resistance, fear or uncertainty. Remaining caught between opposing motivations can contribute to frustration, guilt, anger or a sense of powerlessness.

Motivation and behavioural regulation involve complex neural processes in which dopamine plays an important role, particularly in reward, learning and motivation. However, these processes cannot be reduced to a simple “accelerator and brake” mechanism or to the amount of dopamine a person produces.

Within the S.A.N.E. Method, exercises involving positive emotional states such as joy, enthusiasm, gratitude and connection are used as practical tools to encourage greater awareness and intentional regulation of one’s internal state.

Rather than attempting to directly control specific neurotransmitters or brain frequencies, the purpose of these exercises is to help participants recognise their emotional patterns and develop more adaptive ways of responding to them.

Practices involving attention to breathing, bodily sensations and emotional states may also help participants experience a greater sense of mind-body coherence and emotional balance.

When people learn to approach situations with greater awareness, emotional stability and openness, they may become better equipped to access creativity, make considered decisions and build more constructive relationships.

The S.A.N.E. Method therefore aims to contribute to the development of more conscious individuals and communities by encouraging self-awareness, empathy, kindness and greater responsibility in the way people relate to themselves and others.

Quantasia describes this approach as a transformative coaching method because its purpose is not simply to provide strategies for an isolated problem, but to develop skills that participants can continue to practise and apply independently.

People who regularly practise the S.A.N.E. Method may use these techniques to work on areas such as emotional awareness, stress management, personal energy, self-awareness, relationships, focus, goal setting and time management.

Individual experiences and results naturally vary, and the method should not be considered a substitute for psychological, psychiatric or medical care when these are required.

Quantasia SA would like to thank the professionals from different fields who have contributed their expertise to exploring and observing the S.A.N.E. Method and its potential applications in the pursuit of personal well-being.

Coaching is not therapy.

The Coach is a trainer, motivator, and facilitator in the client's evolutionary and decision-making process. They do not dig into the client's past to find the cause of a problem, nor make assumptions, but work by observing the facts.
The Coach is not a therapist, doctor, or psychologist. In case of symptoms or medical conditions, it is always advised to consult your physician or specialist.
